In the spring, Tolsia High School will begin its e-business courses, taught by Ms. Amanda Copley. The course is a total of four classes BCA1, Desktop Publishing, Digital Imaging, and Web Design. Any student who takes the course can earn up to twelve college credit hours just by passing the classes with a C and making at least a 75% on each of the final tests. At the present, only a few students have signed up, but more are needed in order to be able to provide the course. If you are interested see your guidance counselor or speak with Ms. Copley for more information about the course.

JROTC Coat Drive
JROTC is sponsoring a coat drive to give back to the community. Chief Brown his cadets, at the beginning of the school year, started collecting coats. The drive will end at the end of October.
The coats are going for a very good cause. They will be cleaned and donated to “St. Jude Church” and “The Coat Closet”, both located in Louisa, Kentucky.
Chief Brown has helped out a lot, and as well as his students. As You may take your new or used coats or jackets to the office and tell them what they are for, and they will take care of the rest. Chief Brown will collect the donated items at the end of each day. So do something good: go home, go through your closet and help keep others warm.

Coed Cornhole Tournament
Tolsia High School is holding a co-ed (boys-girls) corn hole tournament out in the courtyard during both lunches. The games are double elimination which means you have to lose one game in order to find yourself a place on the loser bracket, or two to be out of the tournament. Current brackets are on the bulletin board in the cafeteria.
During both lunches there are 6 teams totaling 24 people blowing up both corn hole boards. There is a lot of good competition, but the tournament is nearing the end. It should be over by Friday of this week.
The winners of the tournament will be treated to a pizza party and will also get a t-shirt. Getting pizza for lunch is better than eating the schools lunch any day. There are still four teams on first lunch and five teams on second lunch waiting for the winners to be determined.
On first lunch teams include The Incentive (Mr. Morrone & Mrs. Asbury), C&C Domination (Chelsea Muncy & Channing Spaulding), The Punishers (Amber Berry & Austin Runyon), and The Wannabes (Tyler Copley & Krista Maynard) all still fighting for the finish.
Then on second lunch the teams left include the Buckeyes (Breezy Horne & Brandon Clark), The Cookies (Mr. Cooke & Courtney Stacy), W2 (Mr. Waller & Mrs. M. Walker), and still waiting to play against each other are The Hatfield/McCoy’s (Mr. Stanley & Joetta Hatfield) and The Whatchamacallits (Courtney Stiltner & Austin Brewer).
The tournament is inching towards the end and there are many teachers and students anxious to get the results of the tournament. Good Luck to all teams!

Drama Club an Outlet For a Positive Voice
Tolsia High School’s Drama Club gives students a chance to be a good example to their classmates, friends and the entire Tolsia High School staff.
The Drama Club learns plays or short skits to perform for the school. The material is chosen and acted out in hopes that they might touch someone in the viewing audience with their message, whether that message to say no to drugs or to not drink and drive. Their goal is to share a positive message. Last year, during the spring concert, the Drama Club performed two skits that dealt with issues that teens might face. Now the students may want to show off their talents, but they also feel they have an obligation to inform and get the message across to others.
Students who volunteer and participate in Drama are very energetic and want to display their many talents. There are students of all grades who participate in Drama.
The Drama Club meets during Rebel Tutoring, so some days many students attend, but other days, only a few show. Currently, they are working on putting some skits together to coincide with the choir’s Christmas performance this winter.

New Greenhouse
Over the past few weeks, Mr. Roberts and his building construction students have been building a new greenhouse.
Why does Tolsia need a new greenhouse? Mr. Roberts said, “the old one is out of date.” According to Mr. Roberts, it will take about two to three more weeks to have this $14,000 greenhouse ready for use.

Rewards Trip
On Saturday October 16, 2010, Several Tolsia High School students went to Kings Island. on a rewards trip for the students who scored well on the West Test last year.
Everyone who went seemed like they had a great time. Mrs. Asbury said,” It was awesome! I had a great time, and I wish more students would’ve went.” She said her favorite part about the trip was seeing how much fun everyone was having. Asbury said that she hopes that the trip would be motivational for students to do well on the next WESTEST, and she hopes that next time the school can raise more money so that more people can go.

Tolsia Glad to Have JROTC Program
Tolsia High School is now offering the JROTC program, which allows students to grow in leadership, education, and training. The teacher of the JROTC program is Stephen A. Brown, but the students know him as Chief Brown. Before coming to Tolsia, Chief Brown worked at West Steel. He was superintendent of the number two rolling mill.
He said this is his first year teaching the JROTC program, and he loves it. His favorite part about teaching JROTC is trying to make a difference in the student’s life and teaching them to be a good citizen. His goal is to teach students that they should be good citizens, that they can do anything, and they should be proud of themselves.

Tolsia Times Welcomes Mrs. Thompson to THS
Ms. Thomson is one of the many new faces here at Tolsia High.
Ms. Thompson was a teacher at Crum Middle School before coming to teach Algebra at Tolsia High School. She was a student at Marshall University for four and a half years. While there she majored in accounting before she decided to become a math teacher.
She said that she started teaching because she loves to work with kids. She said her favorite part about teaching is loving to have the chance to help someone out, even if it’s just understanding algebra. When asked what she thought about Tolsia so far she said, “ I love it”.

Lady Rebels Volleyball Off to a Good Start
The Lady Rebel Volleyball team is off to a great start. This year’s only two seniors Rebecca Rowe and Melanie Townsend hope to take their team back to the state championship in Charleston. They have played some good teams already leaving their record at 8 wins and four losses after Tuesday night’s win against the Wayne Pioneers and Wednesday night’s win against the Chapmanville Tigers. The girls are hoping to make their record 9-4 after tomorrow night’s match against the Wayne Pioneers. Tolsia’s Volleyball team is in the Cardinal Conference this year, so to keep up their outstanding records they have achieved over the last few years, they are going to have to be prepared to take on some of the best in the state.
Tolsia has a variety of new players this year. There are more freshman than there are seniors and juniors combined. Starting on Varsity are your seniors Rebecca Rowe and Melanie Townsend accompanied by Junior Kellie Lahoda. sophomore Kayla Stroud and Freshman Savannah Vance, Sierra Wilson and Jordan Presley are also a big part of the Varsity team. The volleyball team is full of fresh talent this year.
The girls would also like to have all you Rebel Fans at their remaining games to cheer them on and support them through their season.

Project Success
Mrs.Sabrina Hill is trying to bring awareness to students about graduates from the past that have progressed in life by starting the program Project Success. She started this program because all we see and hear is negativity. Students that thought they had no hope because their family members dropped out need to know that they can still be successful. The plan for Project Success is to change the people posted on the board weekly so students can see the numerous amount of people from this area that have gone on in life and found personal fulfillment. Who is the most successful? It’s still up for grabs, so try your hardest!

Band Marches Again with Mr. Nicholas Amis
Bright lights, roaring crowds, and hard hits are common for Friday night football. This year though music will be introduced again, as the Marching Rebels return after a one year hiatus. Veteran band director Nicholas Amis took over the Rebel Marching Program with a stunning rise in the number of members. After only having eight members last year, the numbers have risen to fourteen. Amis, a student from Morehead State and Marshall University said, "Band is fun and the kids like it and I'm hoping numbers will rise next year." You can go to: www.tolsiaband.weebly.com for information on future band activities and pictures of the members of the Marching Rebels!
